The façade is the face of a house. Its forms, textures, materials and colours give it a distinctive character. And in addition to that, these days it also has to provide increased protection, durability, insulation and be easy to maintain. Baumit CreativTop and CreativTop Vario, CreativTop Pearl and CreativTop Silk are just a few of the many Baumit products that make this possible.
Modern architecture is often monotonous: up and down the street, just block after block with no structured surfaces, lots of glass and occasionally a few colour highlights and that's it. It's always these same design elements, which are repeatedly combined in a similar form.
Imagination and craftsmanship
However, a façade can also be created using imagination and skilled craftsmanship - and even at a reasonable price. There is a multitude of possible plaster structures, from fine to course, angular or rounded, combined with a variety of plastering techniques, which are now slowly coming to the attention of architects and tradesmen. Because the individual appearance of the façade does not just come down to colour.
This is why Baumit developed CreativTop, so you can give plaster any conceivable texture. This truly opens up unlimited opportunities for the façade. And the best thing is CreativTop is also particularly suited for use with Baumit heat insulation composite systems.
A visual appearance you can feel
Anyone who appreciates the many colour options of the Baumit Life colour system will certainly be impressed by Baumit CreativTop. When the two are combined, the haptic structures can be coloured in 758 possible colour tones, truly broadening the range of design options. Now external walls look unique, not just because of the right colour choice - they also feel unique: corrugated, smudged, close-grained, coarse, granular or smooth. Five available grain sizes, from Max to Silk, are what make these results possible.
After the Baumit UniPrimer has dried, the application of Baumit CreativTop can begin. The thickness of the coat depends on the chosen application technique. Any process can be used: Baumit CreativTop can be freely modelled and applied using various tools. The ready-to-apply Baumit CreativTop is also an all-purpose material and is particularly easy to apply, be it manually or by machine. Baumit CreativTop can be applied in addition to a final coating on Baumit ETICS Systems, on old and new mineral plasters and fillers, on concrete, for the re-working of organically bound fillers and plasters, or on restoration plaster.
From minimalistic to special effects
And in addition to all the structures and colours, Baumit also provides a minimalist version: a particularly attractive and smooth façade. Many architectural designs, especially modern ones, require a smooth, minimalist surface. And smooth surfaces also provide a striking contrast to other available structures.
The exact opposite to this are façades that look almost like Hollywood film sets or modern works of art. And here Baumit's DesignLife programme can provide even more intensive, brilliant and extraordinary effects.
■ Baumit Metallic is a very resistant final coating with an extremely high proportion of metallic pigments.
■ Baumit Glitter is a translucent dispersion-based coating with metallic glitter. Choose from gold, silver or iridescent metals, with standard or free inclusions. The direction of the light will vary the appearance of the façade.
■ Baumit Lasur is a ready-to-use, silicate-bound glaze for decorative wall surfaces indoors and outdoors. This new matt finish recipe makes it ideal for stylish renovations, and you can also create an unmistakably Mediterranean feel with it.
The new aesthetic: smooth is beautiful.
Smooth façades are currently celebrating a glittering comeback - in the truest sense of the phrase - in international architecture. Of course, in Southern and Eastern Europe, smooth façades have always been the standard façade. That is because these areas mostly work with plaster, whereas cement was the preferred material in the north and west. Moreover, all architectural styles have always progressed from indoor to outdoor design. That means that today all the possibilities for a craftsman-like "fine" interior design can now be applied to the façade.
A trend that has its origins in the fact that architectural design in the modern era has increasingly favoured the "smooth" materials aluminium, glass and exposed concrete, which are ideally paired with smooth plastered, brilliantly white masonry. Everything must reflect and shine, you could almost say be clinically clean. Sobriety, clarity and coolness are the dominating aesthetic values, baroque flourishes and undefined, "dirty" materials are rejected.
The secret of brilliant walls
This is why Baumit has now brought three products on to the market, which create a "smooth façade" finish brilliantly: CreativTop Vario, CreativTop Pearl and CreativTop Silk.
And this is how it works:
Baumit CreativTop Vario is an undercoat. This is always used in combination with Silk or Pearl.
■ Baumit CreativTop Vario and Baumit CreativTop Pearl: this is the simpler version - just "rub", not very reflective, has a pearl structure.
■ Baumit CreativTop Vario and Baumit CreativTop Silk: this requires a bit more skill and several application steps. Use Vario as an undercoat, then apply Silk, then polish. Next apply another layer of Silk and then polish again. The result is a brilliant, shining, smooth façade.
Keeping pace with the latest trends
Conclusion: Baumit products can transform façades into contemporary designs to satisfy every taste. On their own or in combination with other elements. A dream comes true for the architect.
