WHAT IS SCREED?

The term screed is used to describe the layer, which is only a few centimetres thick, between the base plate or floor slab and the floor covering. It is differentiated according to the type of bonding agent, method of laying and application method.

The choice depends on the end use, load and floor covering.

 THE BASE FOR YOUR FLOOR

THE BASE FOR YOUR FLOOR

Screed is ideal for filling and smoothing out uneven surfaces. This creates a level foundation for the subsequent floor covering.

In addition, it distributes pressure or load evenly over the underlying insulation.

 TYPES OF SCREED

The type of screed is dependent on the bonding agent used:

- Cement screed (indoor and outdoor use, including wet areas, frost-resistant)
- Calcium sulphate screed (low shrinkage, good heat conductivity, low thickness)
- Other types (synthetic resin, magnesite, mastic asphalt)

  LAYING METHODS

LAYING METHODS

The correct screed structure forms the basis for all other interior design.

Laying method according to area of use:

- Floating (residential rooms, offices, public buildings, etc.)
- Floating with underfloor heating
- Skimming (basements, garages, etc.)

CURING

The screed's speed of curing, and therefore time after which it is suitable to bear a load, depends on several factors:

Layer thickness (curing period is extended with increasing layer thickness)

- Amount of water added
- Screed type
- Climatic conditions (such as humidity, temperature and air circulation)
